Chole Masala Recipe | Chana Masala in pressure cooker

Ingredients (240 ml cup used)
- 1.5 cups soaked chana / chickpeas(3/4 cup raw)
- generous pinch of soda
- 2 large onions finely chopped
- 1 potato cubed
- 1 large tomato finely chopped or amchur powder
- 1.5 cups water
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- Pinch of mustard
- ¼ tsp. cumin
- Pinch of hing
- ⅛ tsp. turmeric
- Salt as needed
- 2 tbsp. Oil
- ¼ to ½ tsp red chili powder
- ¾ tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tbsp. grated coconut (optional)
- Few coriander leaves chopped for garnish
How to make the recipe
- Wash and soak chana/ chole/ chickpeas overnight.
- Heat a pressure cooker with oil, add mustard cumin, when they begin to splutter add curry leaves and fry till crisp.
- Add onions and fry till they turn transparent.
- Add tomatoes, sprinkle salt and turmeric, fry till tomatoes turn mushy.
- Add chili powder, garam masala and stir well, fry for one to two minutes.
- Add the chana, a generous pinch of soda and cubed potatoes, pour 1.5 cups water, adjust salt and spice.
- Cover the pressure cooker with the lid, on a medium flame cook till it whistles twice or thrice.
- Let the pressure go off, add coconut and coriander leaves to the hot curry and stir.
- Serve chana masala with chapathi, parotta , puri or dosa

chana should be soaked thoroughly overnight
